Company dissolution

How to close UK company

We will show you how to close your UK company with Companies House steps by steps. You can do it yourself or ask an accountant to do it for you. A lawyer and company formation agent also provide company dissolution services.

Generally, your company will be removed from Companies House register if your confirmation statement or company accounts or both are overdue. However, this is not a proper way to get rid of your UK company. It may affect your good name if you come back to business later in the future.

1. Company dissolution form DS01

Download the latest company dissolution form DS01 from Gov.UK website. Enter your company number and full name then get all your company directors to sign the DS01 form.

2. Companies House fee

There is a statutory fee £10 payable to Companies House. You must make a cheque or postal orders payable to Companies House. Send the payment to Companies House together with your DS01 form.

3. Where to send your DS01

Where to send your DS01 form is dependent on where your company was registered originally. You can find this out easily. Just look at your company registered office address. For instance, if your company has a registered office address in London then you send your DS01 form to Companies House office England and Wales. Simple as that.

If your company has a registered office address in England and Wales, you send your DS01 form to Companies House in Cardiff.

If your company has a registered office address in Scotland, you send your DS01 form to the Companies House in Edinburgh.
