Keep safe your authentication code

Generally, every company and LLP will receive an authentication code from Companies House. Keep safe your authentication code. Without the code, you would not be able to file your company or LLP forms with Companies House online. This includes your confirmation statement and company accounts with Companies House.

As a matter of fact, the authentication code is like the electronic equivalent of your company director’s signature. For this reason, treat your authentication like your bank pin.

How to keep your authentication code safe

  1. Companies House usually send a 6 digit alphanumeric code. And, you can change your code if you like to something more memorable, mix letters and numbers. Make sure your code is not easy to guess.
  2. Only give your code to someone you trust and who is responsible to file information for your company with Companies House.
  3. If you worry someone may have known your code and you do not trust him/her, then change your code again.
  4. If the person who knows your code no longer authorised to file information for your company, change your code immediately. For example, your former accountant or former employee.
  5. Do not give out your authentication code over the phone or via email to someone claiming they are calling from Companies House. They would never do that. Please report this Companies House straight away at 0303 1234 500.
